LED Monitor Backlighting – Bias Lighting DIY Project

Inspiration: I was at IKEA for the first time, checking out all their furniture. I noticed all the TVs on the TV stands & media centers had backlighting. I thought it was cool so I decided I wanted it for myself. I also saw the backlighting kit from Antec that goes for around $12 dollars, but the reviews weren’t so good on them. I’m also on a bit of a lighting craze, I just installed LEDs into my PAX wardrobe and will be installing lights into my closet.

Total Cost for me: $12 (less than $9 if you only have one monitor)

Cost Breakdown:

2x USB Powered LED Strip ($3.50 each on Amazon)
Double Sided Foam Tape ($5.00 @ Walgreens)
2x USB Extension Cables (free for me, I had 2 lying around)

Instructions

  1. Stick foam tape to USB cable end (no other place to stick it)
  2. Use USB extender cable and plug it into a free USB port. Make sure the cable is long enough.
  3. Stick other side of the tape to a flat surface on the back of your monitor.
  4. Turn the lights off when your friends come over to impress them.
